With the ultimate aim of providing banknotes and other products that can gain the absolute trust of the public, the National Printing Bureau has built and is operating an environmental management system under the core philosophy of “Conduct business activities in harmony with the environment.” Through this system, the bureau is now actively promoting environmental conservation efforts, such as environmental compliance, resource and energy saving, and green procurement. The bureau is also endeavoring to acquire ISO14001 certification so as to further increase trust among customers and community residents. To date, three plants within the bureau have been ISO14001-certified (assessed and registered): the Takinogawa Plant (2002), the Odawara Plant (2004), the Hikone Plant (2006) , the Okayama Plant (2007) and the Shizuoka Plant (2009).
In order to publicize the various aspects of its environmental conservation activities, the bureau prepares an environmental report (available in Japanese only) every year and makes it publicly accessible via the homepage of the National Printing Bureau.
In order to realize this core philosophy, we will build and operate an environmental management system, through which we will promote our ecological activities with focus on the following issues:
We will always comply with environmental laws and regulations, as well as with circulars and agreements with communities concerning the environment.
We will strive for reduction of environmental load by controlling resource/energy consumption and waste production associated with our business activities.
We will endeavor toward design and production that minimize environmental load throughout the lifecycle of our products, including the after-use phase.
We will promote green procurement in accordance with the Law Concerning the Promotion of Procurement of Eco-Friendly Goods and Services by the State and Other Entities.
In order to encourage voluntary environmental conservation efforts among employees, we will actively promote environmental awareness education programs for higher eco-awareness.
