The alphanumeric serial number color of the Series-D 1,000-yen notes was changed from black to blue since all the serial numbers had been used up.

The design of notes for three denominations was partly changed to enhance anti-counterfeiting effects (intaglio micro letters, luminescent ink for the seal part, change of alphanumeric serial number color to bronze).

The transparent hologram layer of the Series-E 5,000-yen notes was enlarged to enhance distinguishability. In addition, the alphanumeric serial number color of these notes was changed from black to bronze.
