Banknotes were redesigned
Banknotes of three denominations 10,000 yen, 5,000 yen, and 1,000 yen were issued on July 3, 2024. The new banknotes are the culmination of anti-counterfeit technologies cultivated for over 150 years. Please take this opportunity to discover the secrets of the new banknotes.
For the banknotes currently issued or issued in the past, please refer to the Basic Information on Banknotes page.
For an introductory brochure and posters about the new banknotes, please refer to the National Printing Bureau's Business Guide and video page.
The intricate patterns depicted on the homepage (Guilloche patterns drawn on the banknotes) are drawn by specialists known as designers using the latest computer systems.
