Wooden pattern of “Kinkarakawashi,” Image of a printing woodblock roll

A printing woodblock roll is a cylindrical mold used in the production of kinkarakawashi.
The side of the printing woodblock roll is carved with plants and other patterns. Concave and convex patterns can be created on the paper by placing a damp sheet of paper on it and tapping it with a brush.
The cylindrical shape was conceived to create running patterns.
This collection is one of 39 woodblock rolls in the possession of this museum and was used in the Printing Bureau.
