National Printing Bureau of Japan exchanges memorandum
with The Indonesian Government Security Printing and Minting Corporation
On June 17, 2014, in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, National Printing Bureau of Japan exchanged a memorandum with The Indonesian Government Security Printing and Minting Corporation (also known as Peruri) regarding technological cooperation and mutual exchanges between the two organizations as banknote manufacturers.
Mr. Hiroyuki Ujikane, the President of the National Printing Bureau, and Mr. Prasetio, the President Director of Peruri, attended a ceremony held to mark the occasion and signed the memorandum.
A delegation of National Printing Bureau visited Peruri with a delegate from the Financial Bureau at Japan’s Ministry of Finance in May 2013, and Peruri proposed a program of technological cooperation at that time. The visit led to the signing of the memorandum.
The main agreements cover exchanges of information on the following:(i) disaster recovery management for emergency situations such as earthquakes and other natural disasters;(ii) quality/quantity management and the like in banknote manufacturing;(iii) banknote design with mutual discussion and evaluation of each side’s work (created for designer training) toward the improvement of such design;(iv) banknote anti-counterfeiting features; and(v) other matters as appropriate to both sides’ areas of interest.
The purpose of information exchange in these areas is to strengthen technological and cooperative relationships between the signatories.
The National Printing Bureau is committed to strengthening capability through international relations based on efforts such as mutual visits involving banknote manufacturers worldwide and exchanges of information on anti-counterfeiting technologies and similar. It also engages in collaborative activities regarding manufacturing technology for governments of other countries, such as hosting international trainees. This work is performed in line with the National Printing Bureau’s third mid-term plan and the program for fiscal 2014, and forms part of the Bureau’s public-agency mission. In light of recent trends in economic globalization and technology advancement, it is now more important than ever to work closely with related organizations on an international level and to pursue exchanges of information and mutual visits in order to support the reliability of today’s currencies.
The National Printing Bureau views the signing of the memorandum with Peruri as significant in relation to international contributions that will support the improvement of mutual technological capability based on the Bureau’s accumulated technology and expertise.
The Bureau will continue to pursue exchanges of information and mutual visits with other countries in consideration of situations both at home and abroad.
The Indonesian Government Security Printing and Minting Corporation (Perum Percetakan Uang Republik Indonesia, or Peruri) is a state-owned enterprise established in 1971. It manufactures the country’s banknotes, coins, passports, postage stamps and other items.
